The Japanese Society for the Science of Design(JSSD) and The Japan Society of Kansei Engineering(JSKE) with the joint sponsorship of the Science Council of Japan, and in collaboration with the Korean Society of Design Science(KSDS), Chinese Federation of Senior Design Education, the Chinese Federation of Senior Design Education(CFSDE), the Chinese Institute of Design(CID) and the Design Research Society(DRS) of Britain, will hold the 6th Asian Design International Conference from October 14 to 17, 2003, in Tsukuba, Japan. Conference
The main theme is " Integration of Knowledge, Kansei*, and Industrial power " .
The program of the conference includes diverse sessions, speeches, activities: Original Article Presentation, a symposium on Doctoral Education in Design, the Asian Design Research Proposition, the Design Research Show-Case, and a Design Exhibition. Through this conference, we would like to take this opportunity to promote mutual understanding of design researches around Asian countries and, furthermore, and contributing to creation of the new research and education system, based on the identity of each country.
* "Kansei" which is a term peculiar to Japan, means the high order function of the brain as source of inspiration, intuition, pleasure/displeasure, taste, curiosity, aesthetics, and creation.
Brief History
The Asian Design Conference has not a short-history. Since the 1st ADC was held in 1996 in China, the 2nd in Korea in 1997, the 3rd in Taiwan in 1998, the 4th in Japan, and the 5th again in Korea were held respectively. Now this turn becomes the 6th ADC which will be held in Tsukuba in Japan in 2003.
With the support from the Japanese government, the organizing committee has been preparing for welcoming about 4000 participants from not only Asian region but also form more than 53 countries worldwide, during 4 days-long conference.

The theme of 6th ADC is " Integration of Knowledge, Kansei, and Industrial Power ".
The conference will consist of the following major programs:

2) 3rd symposium Doctoral Education in Design.
3) Industrial & Academic Research Proposition Showcase
4) Special Exhibition Design of Excellence
5) Asian Design Research Business Workshop
6) Exhibition of Asia Digital Art Awards Selection
Expected Outcomes
The conference will open the academic forum with the rich debates on how resources of Knowledge, Kansei, and Industry can be integrated.
The debates will extend to make a concrete proposal for new system of design research and education.
We expect not only to exchange the research results, but also to envision the new direction of the methodology of organization and design deployment, extraction of management and a design research business opportunity, etc.
